Nokia N78 Quick Review
from a Singapore User , 6th Sep 08
Some love it! Some hate it!
The Nokia N78 probably does not stand out from the other phones on the shelf due to its wierd looking button design, but it sure does have its attractive features.
A feature packed phone with almost everything you need while on the move, who really cares about the looks...
Main Features
3.2mp Camera with Carl Zeiss Lens, Auto-Focus, LED flash
3G with HSDPA
WiFi
Expandable memory via MicroSD card slot
FM Radio
GPS / AGPS
3.5mm standard audio jack
Bluetooth
Navi wheel
Symbian S60
Some really commendable features include the 3.5mm audio jack and the web browser that came with it. The browser was capable of displaying complex pages that lets you feel like you're surfing from a desktop. Despite that, I have experienced occasional crashes on the browser, probably due to lack of memory after long surfing sessions or maybe some scripting errors caused it to exit.
The Navi wheel can be both useful and annoying due to the fact that its built on the main button in the middle. However, it can be turned off easily.
Camera is pretty normal, will post some shots soon.
Text messaging on the phone is rather comfortable (surprise!). You might think that the wierd looking buttons is going to make SMS a chore. But it didn't take too long to get used to it. The C button could have been better placed though.
A thing to note would be the GPRS Internet settings for the N78. My set required that I deactivate restrictions on the phone before I could ever connect to the internet (a security feature?), and deactivation required a PIN2 Code which nearly got my phone locked.. hah! If you're having the same problem, the PIN2 Code is simply 1234. I couldn't find this one on the manual...
Overall, I would give it an 8 / 10. Still exploring the other features anyway...
